This is understandable. Chester Turner blended in perfectly with his environment. A high school dropout who still lived at home with his mother, Turner had had a couple of minor brushes with the law. But there was nothing to suggest the 11-year reign of terror he would unleash.

The first murder occurred when Turner was 20 years old and working as a deliveryman for Domino’s Pizza. Diane Johnson, 21, was found partially nude in a roadway construction area west of the Harbor Freeway in May 1987. A short while after, Elandra Bunn was found near 98 th and Figueroa streets. Then Annette Ernest’s nude body was found, just three blocks from where Johnson was discovered. All three women had been raped and strangled.
